A Strain gauge is a sensor whose resistance varies with applied force; It converts force, pressure, tension, weight etc., into a change in electrical resistance which can then be measured. When external forces are applied to a stationary object, stress and strain are the result. Stress is defined as the object’s internal resisting forces, and strain is defined as the displacement and deformation that occur.
The strain Gauge Trainer consists of bridge balancing network, an instrumentation amplifier with a highly regulated bridge excitation power supply. The gauges are bonded on the structure whose strain is to be measured and they are connected to wheatstone bridge. The bridge output is fed to the amplifier. The instrument can be calibrated in the front panel to read directly the microstrains or voltage output in a digital voltmeter.
- This is a single board trainer helps to study : Pressure in terms of displacement Vs. Output voltage characteristics and determination of Strain.
The trainer kit contains :
- IC regulated dual channel power supply : ± 12 V @300 mA.
- Digital Voltmeter : 0 – 2000 mV, 3 ½ digit Digital Display.
- Instrumentation Amplifier with null adjustment facility.
- Strain Gauge fitted on to the Cantilever of steel frame structure and form a bridge circuit.
- Micrometer for Displacement.
